A’s Finish May With Rally Over Lids to Take Over First Place

The Albany Athletics (5-1 overall/4-1 ATL) closed out the month of May by rallying to defeat Lids Team Sports 11-7 and take over first place in the Haack Division. The win came six days after the A’s handed Lids their first defeat of the season by a 9-4 score.
Kyle Baldani snapped a 7-7 tie in the top of the 5th with an RBI single while Craig Mastroianni and Dylan Sprague followed with RBI singles in a 4-run rally in the inning.  Albany got on the board early when Anthony Scaccia hit a two-run homer in the first inning to help the A’s build a 3-0 lead. But Lids answered and took a 4-3 lead in the 3rd inning. After Albany took a 7-4 lead, Lids again tied it but the A’s rallied again to take an 11-7 lead after their big 5th inning.  Righthander Ryan McGrath came on in the 5th inning to throw the final 3 innings of scoreless relief yielding just one hit and striking out 4 to earn the save.  Righthander Mike Hughes picked up the win.
Mastroianni finished with a double and two singles while Sprague singled twice and Scaccia homered and doubled for Albany.  The A’s have now won four straight overall and three in the league.
Earlier in the week, Scaccia and Pat Landers combined for an 11-strikeout performance to lead the A’s over the Capital District Braves. Scaccia also hit a solo homer and Cameron Overbaugh singled twice and had 2 RBI.
